But if that's true, then why did they write it as a standalone film? Because the focus of the story is the final confrontation between Peter Parker and Electro, the villain behind all the madness. Spider-Man: Far From Home feels like it was written as a sequel to Spider-Man 3, although screenwriters Greg Berlanti and Trace Ayala have denied it, stating that it is not part of the continuity of the third act. After so many years of solo adventure, why did producer Avi Arad introduce a character into the main event? Is he just dying to get back into the good old, Spider-Man world? Or, is there another, less known reason we may see Spider-Man in the future? The film takes place in New York City after a devastating disaster that leveled the city, and Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who is still haunted by his earlier rejection by Peter Parker, returns as a new teenager with a newfound determination to prove himself. Spider-Man: Far From Home is a strange, oddball third standalone outing to the fan-favorite superhero series of Spidey.
